Are You an Artist? and confused whether to follow traditional Art practice or creating content for social media?
Art Vs Content Creation
Being and Artist, Your feelings are deeply valid — and you’re not alone. Many artists today find themselves torn between the purity of traditional art and the pressure of becoming a content creator in a fast-moving digital world
Here’s a little perspective and gentle guidance for both paths:
Art vs. Content Creation: Two Worlds, One Heart
Art is timeless. It takes patience, emotion, lot of studies, practice and depth. Social media is fleeting — built for speed, trends, and psychologically it plays with humans' dopamine. When you try to fit with social media it grants rewards and instant gratification, the friction you’re feeling is natural.
But here’s the thing: you don’t have to choose just one. You can be an artist first — grounded in your love for the brush and canvas and you old art practices — and use content creation as a bridge to share that passion, not as a replacement for it
People do care about art — they just don’t know it yet
It often feels like people scroll post without seeing the effort and heart behind each piece. But someone, somewhere, is watching quietly and being moved by your work. Not every audience responds immediately. Some just absorb, return later, or get inspired without a like or comment. I recently got an inspiration from an Youtuber where he said, 100 views exactly resemble 100 people really attending your live show or let's say an exhibition.
Think of Van Gogh — he sold one painting in his lifetime. The world wasn’t ready. But he still painted.
Silent Creation vs. Sharing Your Light
You absolutely can remain a “silent” artist — staying true to your roots and creating content without validation in social media influencers. But if you feel a deep urge to share, then don’t let the algorithm decide your worth. Share on your terms. Post consistently, yes — but not performatively. Speak your truth in your captions, sometimes share behind-the-scenes moments, or your thoughts during painting which really connects people's heart.
Select the Hybrid Path: A Gentle Middle Way
Here’s a path that blends both:
Dedicate your core time to your real, soulful painting practice. Do not compromise or be desperate to upload a media content.
Spare just 30–60 minutes a week to or you can follow a weekly routine to manage your time for social media content.
Use platforms like Instagram, YouTube Shorts, or Pinterest to build slow but steady visibility.
Focus on building a small, engaged community and give values content — not virality.
